Gen X was told to “get a job.” We did. We worked through every crash, every layoff, every pivot the economy demanded. We were the first generation to build 401(k)s instead of pensions, the first to chase security in a system that kept moving the finish line.

Now 2030 is coming — the supposed retirement horizon. Instead of freedom, many face a wall. Retirement accounts drained by market shocks. Rising healthcare costs. Ageism that shuts doors just when stability is needed most.

This isn’t just Gen X’s crisis. It’s the future for everyone. If the generation that played by the rules can’t afford to retire, what chance do the generations that followed really have?
